LYDYETT LANE ONE WAY SYSTEM

Emergency road closure of Soot Hill – Traffic Impact on Barnton - see road plan below
Following the closure of Soot Hill for safety reasons, the traffic situation in Barnton has been closely monitored to see if there has been any impact on traffic flows and increased road safety concerns.
Discussions have taken place with our local elected Members and Barnton Parish Council and they have requested that a temporary experimental one-way order be introduced on Lydyett Lane to help address their current concerns due to the increase in traffic volumes using this route.
Two-way traffic on Lydyett Lane has been a concern for some time even prior to the closure of Soot Hill.
There are limited passing places available due to residents’ requiring on-street parking provision for their properties.
There are also pedestrian safety concerns as vehicles are currently driving onto the footways to avoid oncoming traffic.
.
A temporary experimental one-way restriction will be trialled between Hayes Drive and Broadway.
It will be one-way from Hayes Drive to Broadway.
This temporary order will come into force on 26th April 2022 for a period of up to 18 months.
However, this experimental order can be removed during this period if it is felt that it is not improving the traffic situation in Barnton.
Once implemented, the one-way trial will be closely monitored to see if it improves traffic movements and road safety on Lydyett Lane.
If successful, consideration will be given to whether this restriction is implemented on a permanent basis.
